Ouch... that wasn't good

Labels: , ,

Days before the Bristol Half and I've abandoned a run with pain in my right shin (I wasn't running hard either).

Im gutted about having to quit a run; and just a little worried about what it could mean for next weekend.

I'm plretty sure if i rest up it'll be alright on the night, but could do with some advice on a few points

Do you have any exercises that will help?
Should use a hot or cold treatment?
To stretch or not to stretch?
Is ibuprofen safe before the race?

I'm not feeling any pain at rest or when I walk but it's the second time in  a week that I've felt discomfort or pain when running.

I know I can google it (and I have), but I'd like to hear about the experiences of real runners
Let me know what you would do, and I'll share progress and results here.

Sometimes rest can be the best cure and this kind of treatment can often be the most painful for the most determined athlete. I think you did the right thing by stopping your run half way through and it probably saved your bacon, with regards to your up and coming race in Bristol.

I ignored (at my peril) what my body was telling me last week and put my back out, preventing me from running for a further week!!

Lastly I'm inspired by your blog and the picture of your happy trainers is a great signature. I'm sure they will take you where and as fast as you need them to go!!

try walking on your heels - stretch your calves gently before you run too
